sleep training infants books

Would love helpful advice on 1 year old sleep issue?
My 13 month old has never been a good sleeper. We never wanted to allow him to Cry-it-out or practice any sleep training. He had very bad reflux and allergies as an infant so I always felt his night waking was either pain or hunger. I have read both ‘No Cry Sleep Solution’ and Dr. Sears ‘Baby Sleep Book’. While there was some helpful advice, not much worked for us. I NEVER wanted to resort to letting my son self soothe by crying, but we are out of options it seems. He wakes 5-7x a night! I have a mild heart condition and it has been acting up quite a bit b/c of lack of sleep. Does anyone have a more GENTLE, MODIFIED WAY of letting your baby self soothe (I understand crying may be involved)? Thank you very much!!!
Thx Eyes, but that is just way to harsh in my opinion. Appreciate your input though
Well it’s not going to be easy, Im telling you that-he’s 13 mos so he’s spent all his life with no sleep trainning.
You need to do your evening routine, bath, pj’s books, whatever then a bottle in a quiet dim lit place-could be his room if you have a chair or another part of the house-where it’s nice and quiet. Once he’s finished his milk, in a quiet soothing voice tell him it’s time to go to bed, hug him, maybe rock him or whatever you do for sleeping and place him in his crib. And leave the room.
He’ll cry-but let him cry -he’s just crying because of the sleeping arrangements-not because he’s in pain, hunger, or needs a diaper change.
Wait about 5 mins or so.. listen for slow down in his crying- if he doesnt, go back in there, hold him and tell him it’s time for bed, kiss him and back to bed. Repeat procedure next time leave him 10 mins..
If he wakes up in the middle of the night-you can go and check on him without picking him up-if he’s OK (not sick) place him back down with a Shh it’s time to sleep-
Then Leave the room. And let him. Dont take him out of his crib, you may go back-and place him back down-but that might agitate him more. Waking 5 -7 times a night is crazy for 13 mos old!! He’s not a newborn anymore, he doesnt need to feed overnight-he needs to sleep through.
It’s going to take a few days for him to get used to it-at least 3 CONSECUTIVE days.
It’s tough, I know-I’ve been there but you Have to do it. He’s not sleeping properly and neither are you!
Dont stop this-just do it for a few days without stopping-and then you’ll see how every day your baby cries less and less and then your baby is not waking up in the middle of the night anymore!
