Infants weight and fussiness. Are they related?
A good friend of mine had her first baby (a girl) about 4 months ago. She weighed 8 lbs 1 oz when she was born. She eats 4-5 ounces every 3-4 hours but she only weighs ten pounds and she will be 4 months old in about a week. These past 6 weeks she has been VERY fussy. EVERY night. SCREAMING for hours and nothing helps. She’s not colicky. Not teething, not hungry, not wet, not tired. We don’t know what to do anymore. I always heard that low birthweight babies are fussy. So could her daughter not gaining much weight effect her mood? Is there a way to help her gain weight if this is the problem? Is there anything else that could be wrong with her that we don’t know about?
She’s given her colic medicine. The doctor says its not colic. So, its not colic. Thanks for nothing!
There are a few things you can try and look at.
Sometimes adding a bit of baby cereal to the diet will satisfy the baby and will provide necessary weight gain.
Now, is the baby having regular bowel movements and are they normal movements? The baby could be constipated (little round balls) or having diarrhea.
Did these fits of screaming start after vaccinations and does the baby have other symptoms such as being stiffer when held, fevers, breathing difficulties, ear pain, throat infections?
You might want to research adverse reactions to vaccines to make sure that isn’t the problem and probably should schedule another visit with the doctor if the problems do not get better soon.
